Shahid Afridi, skipper of Galle Gladiators is set to miss the first two matches of the inaugural Lanka Premier League. The all rounder was expected to reach Sri Lanka on Monday, unfortunately he missed his flight.
Afridi informed his fans on Twitter stating he missed his flight to Colombo today morning and won’t be able to play initial matches.
“Missed my flight to Colombo today morning. Nothing to worry, I’ll be reaching soon to take part in the LPL for Galle Gladiators. Look forward to joining my teammates” Afridi tweeted.
The team also confirmed the news saying the all rounder would miss the starting two games as they are expecting him to arrive by Wednesday.
Afridi’s delay to arrive in Sri Lanka comes as a double-blow for the Gladiators ahead of the tournament start. Last week Lasith Malinga had asked for leading the side before pulling out on a short notice.
Vice-captain Bhanuka Rajapaksa is most likely to lead the side in absence of Afridi when the tournament begins. Gladiators will face Jaffna Stallions in their first match of the league on November 27, followed by the second game against Colombo Kings.
