Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on Wednesday announced of readjusting the inaugural edition of the Lanka Premier League on November 21. This comes just the day after Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) refused to give the NOC to its players to play in LPL.
Earlier, the tournament was scheduled to begin in mid-August but it got postponed to November 14 due to the quarantine protocols. The SLC has now pushed the date from November 21 so the players can have more time to adhere to quarantine protocols.
This move will also aid the players who are currently in the UAE for the ongoing IPL to reach Sri Lanka after its gets over.
“Since the IPL will go until the 10th of November, we thought to keep some space for the players taking part in the IPL, and who wish to make it to the LPL to take part in the tournament” LPL director Ravin Wickramaratne said.
The SLC has been putting in efforts to make the first edition of the tournament successful and also ensuring safety of the players. They are working closely with the health ministry of the country to keep the stadiums and surrounding area COVID-19 free.
The matches will take place across three venues- Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium, Pallekele International Cricket Stadium and Suriyawewa Mahinda Rajapakse International Cricket Stadium.
As many as five team will participate in the tournament that come from Colombo, Kandy, Galle, Dambulla and Jaffna.
