Leicestershire club on Tuesday confirmed the signing of Ireland’s all-rounder Gareth Delany for the upcoming season of the Vitality T20 Blast. Delany was a part of the Ireland team that toured England for the three-match ODI series earlier this month.
The club bosses learned that the South African batsman Janneman Malan won’t be able to join the side due to travelling restriction in his country. The club went on to rope in the 23-year-old Gareth Delany after his all-round performance against England.
“We exhausted every avenue in trying to get Janneman into the country but issues out of our control have gone against us on this occasion,” Leicestershire’s CEO Sean Jarvis said.
“It is a big blow for us because everyone was looking forward to Janneman playing for us. We would love to see Janneman become a Fox in the future and wish him the best over the next few months,” he added.
Delany is considered as one of the best hard hitters in Ireland and he also bowls leg spin. He has also appeared 28 times for Ireland in the limited overs matches. He also opened batting for Ireland alongside Paul Stirling.
