Lanka Premier League team Colombo Kings on Thursday announced of signing Herschelle Gibbs as head coach for the tournament. The former South African batsman will be take on the charge of the side before the tournament starts on November 26.
Angelo Mathews will be the in-charge of the side in the inaugural edition of the tournament, will be joined by Gibbs from this week.
Gibbs has had a prosperous career with South Africa as the opener and scored 14,661 runs in 361 matches he played so far.
The franchise has also signed the retired seasoned spinner Rangana Herath as the bowling coach for the tournament.
Lanka Premier League has seen several setbacks after some star players including Chris Gayle and Liam Plunkett pulled out of the tournament. The duo was supposed to join the likes of Irfan Pathan, Munaf Patel, Kusal Perera and Kusal Mendis.
A total of five teams will participate in the tournament: Colombo Kings, Kandy Tuskers, Galle, Dambulla and Jaffna. The first match of the tournament will take place on November 23 with all the matches slated to take place in Hambantota.
The finals will take place on December 16 at Hambantota after the knockout games on December 13 and 14 respectively.
