Australian skipper Meg Lanning hit 62* as she helped the side win the first match of the ODI series again White Ferns on Saturday.
The Australian team continued with their good form from the T20I series into the ODI series after a victory by 7 wickets. Put a target of 181 runs to chase, opener Rachael Haynes and Meg Lanning stitched a partnership of 65 runs.
Haynes got out on 44 runs while Lanning stayed not out on 62 runs off 70 balls including five boundaries and two sixes.
After winning the toss, the home team decided to bowl first at the Allan Border Field. White Ferns batting collapsed on 180 runs within 50 overs. Maddy Green (35 runs) and Katie Perkins (32 runs) tried to revive the inning but failed to take the team past 200 run mark.
Georgia Wareham, Jess Jonassen and Sophie Molineux put up a brilliant display as they finished with a couple of wickets each.
Georgia became the player of the match for her miserly spell of 2/23, including one maiden in 10 overs.
Australian women easily chased the target within the 34 overs and won the first match in style. Both the sides will now face each other on October 5 for the second match of the ODI series.
