As we creep closer to the IPL 2020, all eyes will be on Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni, who will return to playing cricket for the first time since India’s World Cup exit last year.
In the Indian Premier League (IPL), MS Dhoni is synonymous with Chennai Super Kings (CSK). He has been one of the most successful captains in the history of the game, Dhoni has directed CSK to three IPL championships and the team has played astounding eight finals in only ten seasons under the captaincy of Dhoni and thus he remains the most successful skipper in IPL antiquity in terms of the number of wins.
Kasi Viswanathan who is the CEO of Chennai Super Kings is certain that Dhoni will play for the three-time champions till IPL 2022 and is not concerned at all about the expert wicket-keeper batsman’s form as he gears up to make a comeback to competitive cricket after a long gap of more than a year. Dhoni last played for India in the semi-final of the 2019 World Cup against New Zealand and has since stayed away from all forms of cricket.
The right-handed batsman was all set to make his comeback in IPL 2020 which was formerly planned to start from March 29. But his return got delayed after the league was deferred due to the coronavirus pandemic. As IPL 2020 is set to commence from September 19 in the UAE now, Dhoni is all set to make his comeback after 13 months as his fans teammates wait in keenness to watch him dispatch opposition bowlers yet again.
While CSK CEO Viswanathan is positive about Dhoni’s IPL future, he specified that the 39-year-old knows his job well and will take care of the team in UAE.
“Yes. We can expect MS Dhoni to be part of both (IPL 2020 and 2021) and probably for even the next year. 2022,” Viswanathan was quoted as saying by India Today.
The super Kings had begun their training on March 2 with Dhoni joining from day one, unperturbed by speculations over his future in international cricket.
However, the camp had to be suspended on March 14 due to the novel coronavirus outbreak. But Dhoni’s focus was headstrong on the game and he had even scored a whirlwind 123 off 91 balls in a CSK practise match ahead of IPL 2020.
“I am getting updates through the media only, saying he has been training in Jharkhand in indoor nets. But we don’t have to worry about the skipper, boss. We don’t worry about him at all. He knows his responsibilities and he will take care of himself and the team,” he added.
