The Nepal cricket team captain Gyanendra Malla tested positive for COVID-19, along with vice-captain Dipendra Singh Airee, and teammate Rohit Kumar Poudel, ahead of their close camp starting today in Kathmandu. The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) revealed the news on Twitter.
Apart from the national cricket team players, one staff member also tested positive for the virus.
“Covid-19 Test prior to the national cricket team’s close camp starting November 26, 2020. Following Players and staff have been tested positive- Gyanendra Malla, Vice-Captain – Dipendra Singh Airee, Player – Rohit Kumar Poudel,” CNA announced on their official Twitter handle.
Malla is asymptomatic and as a precautionary measure, has gone into self-quarantine.
“No symptoms have been experienced so far and I am absolutely fit. However, to control further transmission and for my self-recovery, I have self-quarantined until the next few days. I request every one to take this worldwide pandemic seriously and follow the directions of health administrations,” he said.
The right-handed batsman assumed captaincy of the national side in 2019.
