New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson and his wife Sarah Raheem have been blessed with a girl child on Wednesday. The couple welcomed the baby girl and also informed their fans via an Instagram post posting her picture with a caption, “Overjoyed to welcome a beautiful baby girl into our family,”
The 30-year-old had left the side after helping his side win the first Test against West Indies at Hamilton. New Zealand won the match by an inning and 134 runs with the Black Caps skipper scoring his career-best 251 runs.
Williamson didn’t play in the second Test fled back and forth from Wellington and Tauranga home to join his wife Sarah, impending the birth of his child. He also didn’t play in the T20I series after returning from the IPL in UAE instead joined his family.
Tim Southee led the side in his absence in the first two T20Is, followed by Tim Santner in the final match.
“It’s a very exciting time in anybody’s life and it certainly is in mine,” said Williamson.
NZ head coach Gary Stead also supported Williamson’s decision of opting out of the WI series, stating family is what matters the most.
“Family comes first. Kane’s not the first player to miss a test match because of an impending birth and he won’t be the last,” Stead said.
“Worst case scenario Kane misses some matches. As a dad, as a parent, you only get that opportunity once in your life to be there for your (first) child’s birth and I know that it’s important for Kane too. At the end of the day we play cricket and other things are much more important.”
