Mumbai Indians won their fourth match of the tournament as they defeated Rajasthan Royals by 57 runs in Abu Dhabi. Jasprit Bumrah finished with a match-winning spell of 4/20 while Trent Boult and James Pattinson took two wickets respectively.
It was a complete showdown of the Mumbai bowlers who helped the side retain the top spot in the IPL 2020 standings.
After winning the toss, Rohit Sharma decided to bat first and opened the inning with Quinton de Kock. The duo gave a good start already scored 45+ runs before losing the first wicket. Suryakumar Yadav came in at number 3 and he singlehandedly treated the Rajasthan bowlers with reverse sweeps and cover drives.
Later, Hardik Pandya complimented him from the other end with 30 runs off 19 balls including a couple of boundaries and a six.
With the help of Suryakumar Yadav’s domineering inning, Mumbai Indians reached a stiff and competitive total of 193/4 after 20 overs.
Rajasthan Royals had a daunting task ahead but it only deepened after Trent Boult removed Yashasvi Jaiswal for a duck. They suffered two more blows within the powerplay as Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah struck in the next two overs and restricted them on 12/3.
Jos Buttler continued to rotate the strike and ensured the runs kept coming but that wasn’t enough as no other batsman could withstand the mighty bowling attack of Mumbai.
It was a matter of the some overs that kept Mumbai Indians away from the two points from the win. Rajasthan had already seemed put up any fight except Joss Buttler who scored 70 runs off 44 balls including 5 sixes and 4 boundaries.
Rohit Sharma brought Bumrah again in the 16th over which turned out to be a masterful move as the latter struck thrice in his second spell.
Due to a substantial contribution from the pace attack, Mumbai Indians managed to defeat Rajasthan Royals by 57 runs. This was also their first win against the Rajasthan over the last two seasons of the IPL.
Suryakumar Yadav became the man of the match for his remarkable inning of 79 runs off 47 balls studded with 11 boundaries and two sixes.
Mumbai Indians are now above Delhi Capitals in the points table and will next face Delhi Capitals in their next matchup on October 11.
