Indian wicket-keeper batsman Parthiv Patel on Wednesday announced retirement from all formats of the cricket. He also put an end to his 18-year-long career after confirming the news to his fans on Twitter.
He penned a heartful note on his Twitter handle, addressing his fans, colleagues and the BCCI who supported him throughout his career.
The 35-year-old broke into the mainstream in 2002 also became the youngest wicket-keeper in the Test cricket at the age of 17. He was a regular figure in the Indian team until the competition got tough with the entry of Dinesh Karthik and MS Dhoni.
Eventually, he lost his place in the Indian team and continued to play in the domestic cricket for Gujarat in the Ranji cricket. He played his debut Ranji game back in 2004, two years after his Test debut for India.
“I remember the match vividly. We should have won that match against Delhi. I played against some established players on the circuit like Ashish Nehra, Aakash Chopra, Ajay Jadeja, Gautam Gambhir, Mithun Manhas, Amit Bhandari, Sarandeep Singh, Vijay Dahiya. Delhi was 102 for nine chasing 156. We almost won. It was a good start to my career,” Parthiv had told Sportstar.
He appeared in the national team on frequently but failed to cement his place as the first-choice wicket-keeper in the Indian team.
He was a regular figure in the Indian Premier League and played for Chennai Super Kings, Kochi Tuskers Kerala, Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
He played 25 Tests, 38 ODIs and a couple of T20Is for India and aggregated 1706 runs across all the formats.
