Sunrisers Hyderabad put up an all-round performance against the Delhi Capitals and defeated them by 88 runs on Tuesday.
David Warner and Wriddhiman Saha, who opened the innings for the first time this season laid the foundation for the high score in the first innings. Later, the bowlers did their part and rattled the strong Delhi’s batting line-up and won the game with 6 balls left.
After winning the toss, DC skipper Shreyas Iyer decided to bowl first with the hope to chase the target and return on the winning turf.
Put on batting first, SRH openers Warner and Saha scored their respective half-centuries and stitched 107 runs partnership for the 1st wicket.
Skipper David Warner scored 66 runs off 34 balls which included 8 boundaries and two sixes while Saha top-scored with 87 runs off just 45 balls.
As he inched towards his century, he ensured SRH goes past 200 run mark and put up a big total at Sharjah. Unfortunately, he was bowled by Anrich Nortje in the 15th over on 87 runs which included 12 boundaries all over the ground and two sixes.
With a significant contribution from Manish Pandey, SRH managed to reach 219/2 in 20 overs. Kagiso Rabada, the purple cap holder looked ineffective against the relentless SRH batsmen as he gave away 54 runs in his spell for no wicket.
Delhi’s opening batting woes continues.
Chasing a stiff total of 220 runs, Delhi Capitals had a dreadful start after Sandeep Sharma struck and cleaned Shikhar Dhawan for a duck.
Capitals lost almost half of its batsmen in within 12 overs as no batsman managed to face the music on the ground.
Rishabh Pant did try to provide some resistance to the innings but his efforts went in to vain after his dismissal in the 17th over for just 36 runs.
Rashid Khan finished with 3/7 in his spell, while the pacers Sandeep Sharma and T Natarajan scalped two wickets respectively. Within the matter of time, SRH bowlers tamed the DC batsmen and clinched two points with a comfortable win by 88 runs.
Wriddhiman Saha became the player of the match for his match-winning knock of 87 runs off just 45 balls that helped SRH post a massive total.
Sunrisers Hyderabad will next face Royal Challengers Bangalore in their upcoming match-up on October 31.
