Tensions between India and Australia keep growing as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) files an official complaint about racial abuse faced by Indian pacemen Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) during the third Test between the two teams.
Siraj and Bumrah were racially abused by the SCG crowd during the second and the third day of the Test match. The incident was brought into the attention of the Indian captain Ajinkya Rahane and the team coach Ravi Shastri at once.
After a discussion over the grave matter, the team decided to not tolerate such behaviour and approached the officials. The matter was immediately reported of the International Cricket Council (ICC) after the match.
Furious over the case, the BCCI stated that such behavior is completely “unacceptable”, and that they stand with the boys.
Speaking to ANI, a BCCI official having the knowledge of the events, “The tour has surely turned sour and the last thing you expect in a civilized society is racial abuse. The ICC (International Cricket Council) and Cricket Australia need to be very responsive to this as the possible alternatives are not very pleasant for cricket, especially during the present circumstances.
“The Sydney Test has now become an acid test for CA interim CEO Nick Hockley and we are in complete solidarity with our boys. Racial abuse is unacceptable,” the official added.
Earlier the Queensland’s Health Shadow Minister Ros Bates had passed a derogatory comment over the Indian cricket team regarding the quarantine rules, which had upset the BCCI, and now the matter of racial abuse has made the tour sourer for the Indian team.
After completing the third Test at the SCG, the teams are scheduled to lock horns in their fourth Test in Brisbane.
