India’s limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma and ace pacer Ishant Sharma will not be able to participate in the Test series against Australia. Both the players are currently training at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and none of their medical reports have signalled them healthy.
The Test series between India and Australia is set to take place between December and January month. After sustaining an injury in IPL, Rohit and Ishant headed back to India for rehabilitation at the NCA. Rohit Sharma was dealing with a hamstring injury while Ishant was ruled out due to his muscle tear.
Last week Ishant was cleared for the Australia tour but this week’s report completely defies his recovery in complete form.
With reports of both the players not so encouraging, it comes as a major blow for the Indian team ahead of the Test series.
One of the officials of the NCA conveyed the fitness status of the duo to the BCCI and the national team selectors, but is yet to issue the formal communication on the same.
Rohit Sharma was not named in the limited-overs squad, was supposed to fly Australia for the remaining Tests after Kohli’s return. Unfortunately, team, India will have to be without the skipper, Rohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma.
Earlier this week head coach Ravi Shastri had reiterated that the duo will only be able to participate in the Test series if they are able to fly in next 4-5 days.
“You don’t really know how quickly he’ll be available to fly out. Like I said, if anyone has to play in the Test series, he has to be on the flight in the next four or five days. Otherwise, it’s very difficult.” Shastri said.
