Australian cricketer Sarah Aley has announced her retirement from the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL). The cricketer made the announcement via her Instagram account.
The Sydney Sixers player also revealed that she played in the knockout between the Sixers and Melbourne Stars on November 22nd. Although the Sixers couldn’t make it to the tournament finals, they walked out in style, successfully winning their last match of the tournament.
Posting a series of pictures from her WBBL moments, the 36-year old captioned the picture as, “Well the cat is outta the bag… It’s time to call it a day. Have loved every moment in magenta with the @sixersbbl from laughing at @a_healy ‘s dribble, celebrating wickets, sitting back and watching one of the best absolutely boss it, celebrating WBBL titles with great mates and family and finishing it all off with one last piercing look from @kappie777 but then hugging it out.
It’s been one hell of a ride and I’ve loved every minute. Truly the best people to play alongside and play for #smashemsixers #bisandtris, ” she completed.
Speaking of Aley, teammate Alyssa Healy said in a post-match press conference, “She’s really busy working full-time outside of cricket and taking up some coaching roles so I think that’s the last time that we’ll see her out here which is such a shame considering she had more energy than the 17, 18-year-olds out there today in the field,” Healy told a post-match press conference.”
Healy further added, “She’s been such a good mate of mine and such a good team-mate to have alongside you and she’s done some amazing things for the Sixers.
She’s just one of those true champions of the game that people will talk about and in 10 to 15 years’ time, ‘remember Sarah Aley?’ and everyone who played with her said, ‘yep, I remember the passion that she brought to the game,’ so it will be a sad loss.”
Aley, who has played all the six editions of WBBL, has also been a part of three international games for Australia. One ODI against Pakistan, and two T20Is against England.
