Indian opener Shafali Verma has expressed her eagerness on competing in the Women’s T20 Challenge in November this year.
The Women’s T20 Challenge is slated to take place between November 1-10 this in the United Arab Emirates. The competition will take place during the final stages of the IPL.
Shafali took the cricket world by storm last year with her destructive batting and also became the youngest cricketer (men & women) to ever play in the World Cup tournament.
On Sunday, the BCCI had confirmed about the Women’s T20 Challenge comprising of three teams playing as many as four matches between November 1-10. Verma welcomed the BCCI’s decision as she posted on twitter with a caption, “Very excited to once again play in the upcoming Women’s T20 Challenge. Plus looking forward to meeting all my teammates after a while.” @BCCIWomen@IPL
Earlier, many Indian women cricketers including Jhulan Goswami, Mithali Raj, Vice Captain Smriti Mandhana also welcomed the BCCI’s move to promote the Women’s cricket by coming up with the Women’s T20 Challenge in UAE.
The major issue behind the tournament fixture is its collision with the Women’s Big Bash League which is slated to take place between October 17 to November 29. Some Australian players including Alyssa Healy and Rachel Haynes expressed concerns over the dates of the Women’s T20 Challenge.
