Former Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi on Wednesday said that he prefers former Indian skipper MS Dhoni over Australia’s Ricky Ponting. Not just for his long six-hitting abilities and crafty leg-spin bowling, Afridi is also known for having an active and upfront opinions in the public forums.
Afridi conducted a Q&A session on his official Twitter account where he asked his fans to shoot questions on him and he would answer them. One of the users asked him about his opinion on who is the ‘better captain, Dhoni or Ponting?’
The all-rounder quickly responded, “I rate Dhoni a bit higher than Ponting as he developed a new team full of youngsters.”
Afridi had all praises for Dhoni and mostly due to his accolades in the International cricket especially in all formats of the game. And it is also known that Dhoni and Ponting are two of the most successful captains the game has ever seen.
Dhoni has played 350 ODIs in his career so far his highest score being 183 against Sri Lanka. He also is the only captain to conquest all the major ICC trophies (50-over World Cup, T20 World Cup, and Champions Trophy).
Dhoni concluded his Test career in 2014 after playing 90 Test matches and scored 4,876 runs at an average of 38.09.
When Afridi was queried to pick the ‘best batsman’ he has bowled, he identified the legendary West Indies batsman Brian Lara and South Africa’s AB de Villiers as the ones he was lucky to bowl to.
