England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Monday announced former South African legend Jacques Kallis as batting consultant of the side. Kallis, 45, will be joining the team ahead of the Sri Lanka tour slated to begin January 18.
England’s tour of Sri Lanka has been going as scheduled despite the new wave of coronavirus in the UK, that has alarmed the country.
ECB has been hunting for the full-time coaches for the national team considering the upcoming season and the T20 World Cup next year. The applications will be open until January 10 for the vacancies of batting and bowling coach.
This implies Kallis will be the last part-time consultant for England for the Sri Lanka tour consisting of the two-match Test series listed under the ICC World Test championship.
The board also confirmed that Kallis will not be associated with the England team for the India tour slated to begin early next year.
Kallis is one of the most successful all-rounders in the International cricket and he retired with stellar record of 13289 runs in 166 Test matches and 11579 runs in 15,885 runs in ODI matches. Besides, he also boasts of 292 wickets in Tests and 273 wickets in ODI respectively.
He has previously worked as the batting consultant of South Africa during their home series against England earlier this year.
He will most-likely join the England team at Hambantota on January 2 ahead of the First test (January 14-18)
