BCCI President Sourav Ganguly took to his official Twitter account as he shared the pictures of the upcoming 2021 T20 World Cup. BCCI retweeted his tweet and indicated the start of the countdown for the awaited tournament slated to take place in India.
On August 17 the ICC had announced that this year’s edition of the T20 World Cup supposed to take place in Australia was postponed due to COVID-19.
Sourav Ganguly and BCCI secretary Jay Shah expressed confidence over hosting the tournament next year scheduled to take place between October-November.
ICC CEO Manu Sawhney also sounded optimistic as he backed the BCCI and possibility of the fans also allowed in the stadium.
“The BCCI will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the health and safety of everyone concerned in this showpiece event is taken care of,” Jay Shah said.
“While we are determined to provide a rich cricket-viewing experience, I would also like to assure the ICC and member boards that India is known for its warm hospitality and we will make you feel at home” he added.
Sourav Ganguly said it was a “matter of great honor” to be hosting the World Cup and also ensured the players would enjoy playing in India.
“I have enjoyed being part of ICC events as a player and know from experience that nothing beats the buzzing atmosphere of a global cricket event with millions around the world watching every game,” he said.
“I now look forward to playing my part as an administrator as we prepare to host the prestigious event.” he added.
