Chennai Super Kings star batsman Suresh Raina had pulled out of the IPL 2020 and returned to India citing personal reasons. The franchise CEO KS Viswanathan informed the fans via Twitter showing support behind him pulling out if this season.
Apparently, Raina’s uncle has been killed while his aunt is battling life after getting injured in the attack. As per Dainik Jagran, a house attack took place during the midnight in Pathankot’s Thariyal village on the August 19. The incident took place when the family was sleeping on the terrace as intruders broke into the house and started firing.
“It is being said that Asha Devi, sister of Raina’s father is fighting for her life in the hospital, while his uncle, identified as 58-year-old Ashok Kumar died in the attack. His cousins – 32-year-old Kaushal Kumar and 24-year-old Apin Kumar also sustained injuries in the attack. Deceased Ashok Kumar’s 80-year-old mother also sustained serious injuries in the attack,” the report said.
“Meanwhile, the police have paced their investigation after getting to know that the victims are the close relatives of Suresh Raina. A team of police and forensic experts have collected evidence from the spot. The police also took help from the dog squad to identify the attackers but failed to get any clue,” it added.
Raina had announced retirement from international cricket on August 15 after MS Dhoni called quits from the national duty. He was with the CSK teammates during the pre-season camp in Chepauk between August 15-20 before the team left for UAE.
