The Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday confirmed the upcoming fixture of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The 2020-21 season of the T20 tournament will kickstart from early next year and will take place between January 10-31.
BCCI secretary Jay Shah confirmed the development to all the cricketing boards across the country via an email on December 13. (Sunday)
Lately, the board has been considering resuming the domestic cricket season in India early next year, starting with the Syed Mushtaq Ali and Ranji Trophy. The decision has also been made unanimously by all the state boards, preferring to even play despite the pandemic.
Earlier, one of the sources had confirmed that the BCCI would most likely go with the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy ahead of the Ranji Trophy. While the T20 tournament has finally got the green flag, Ranji Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy is the second preference of all the state boards.
“Having gone through your responses, in accordance with the feedback received, I’m pleased to inform you that BCCI is planning to start the 2020-21 domestic season with the scheduling for the T20 tournament for Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy,” Shah wrote in an email accessed by Cricbuzz.
“The BCCI will seek further feedback from the members on organising any other tournament/tournaments and the decision will take place after the group stage of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy,” he added.
The apex body also announced the transfer window for all the players for the upcoming season until December 20, 2020.
