BCCI President Sourav Ganguly on Monday hailed IPL as the best T20 league in the world after Rajasthan Royals’ win over KXIP.
The game between Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab left everyone including the BCCI President stunned in a high-scoring match. Ganguly later said that these close encounters are the reason why it is the best league in the world.
Rajasthan Royals chased down a mammoth target of 224 runs with four wickets remaining in Sharjah. They also bettered their own record of the highest runs chase in the history of the IPL.
The top order including Steve Smith, Sanju Samson and Rahul Tewatia scored 50+ runs and ensured they were always in the game until the end. At one point, Rajasthan Royals seemed to have lost the track after Rahul Tewatia played a series of dot balls.
Later, he compensated by hitting seven sixes in the last nine balls and reached his half-century off 30 balls. Jofra Archer and Tom Curran hit the winning runs and achieved the improbable win over KXIP.
This was the second time this season that Steve Smith and his men were involved in a match with over 200 runs. They will now lock horns with the Kolkata Knight Riders in the next game on September 30 in Dubai.
