Hobart Hurricanes have signed a contract with the New Zealand cricketer Hayley Jensen for the upcoming season of WBBL. The 28-year-old will join the side as a replacement player as the frontline all-rounder for the 6th edition of the tournament.
The 6th edition of the WBBL will begin from October 25 and Hobart Hurricanes is the only team to declared the 15-member squad.
With Jensen’s acquisition, the franchise only needs to name the remaining four players. Jensen has previously played for Melbourne Renegades, Perth Scorchers and Melbourne Stars in the WBBL.
This will be her fourth team in the WBBL and also play after two years after missing out in the previous season.
“The New Zealand cricket system has been great for Hayley, and I’m confident that she will rotate into the squad pretty easily,” Scott Barnes, General Manager of Hurricanes said.
“She’s first played for the Kiwis in the 2013/14 season, and to have notched up a Player of the Match award in the team’s first World Cup match earlier this year shows just how much she has to offer.” she added.
Hobart Hurricanes also roped in Naomi Stalenberg and Amy Smith in the last one week. But they also suffered a setback after Tayla Vlaeminck and Maisy Gibson sustained injury.
“The rules are you can only play three overseas but because we’ve lost Tayla Vlaeminck, who is a marquee player, we’re allowed to bring an extra one (in the group travelling to Sydney) for that security purpose,” Hurricanes coach Salliann Briggs said.
