Cricket West Indies (CWI) confirmed on Tuesday that they have finalized the West Indies men’s team’s January 2021 tour of Bangladesh. The tour will consist of three ODIs and two Tests. The ODIs will be played from January 20 to January 25. On the other hand, the Test matches will commence on February 3 and will last till February 15.
“The Board of Directors of Cricket West Indies (CWI) has approved in principle the tour of Bangladesh, subject to the finalization of the medical and logistical details within the tour Memorandum of Understanding (MOU),” CWI stated in their press release.
According to the revised draft of schedule, the West Indies team will arrive in Bangladesh on January 10. Following this, they will play a warm-up ODI match on January 18 at Savar.
Being rather concerned for the health safety and wellness of their players and staff, CWI was in a dilemma regarding the confirmation of their tour. They had firmly stated that only if their are strict protocols and proper management of the COVID-19 protocols will they come to a consensus for confirming the tour.
The CWI officials recently visited the host country to inspect their COVID-19 protocols and were impressed with their arrangements. Satisfied with the results, they confirmed the tournament.
“The approval in principle was made following a recommendation from CWI’s Medical Advisory Committee (MAC), having received a detailed report from the pre-tour visit of Bangladesh by CWI Director and Member of the CWI and ICC MAC, Dr. Mansingh and Security Manager, Paul Slowe,” CWI added.
