Bangladesh’s young pacer, Kazi has been given a two-year ban by the national cricket board for failing a dope test in 2018. The 21-year-old even confessed to the offence.
Bangladesh’s leading wicket-taker in the 2018 U-19 World Cup, Kazi Anik Islam has tested positive for the consumption of Methamphetamine (a prohibited substance), during a National Cricket League in the same year.
By doing this, the youngster has also breached the anti-doping regulations set by the Bangladesh Cricket Board and the Board officials responded to this and took an immediate action.
“ln Mr Anik’s case in considering his level of Fault, the BCB has considered his youth and relative inexperience, the fact that he did not ingest the Prohibited Substance in an effort to enhance his sports performance, his limited anti-doping education and his prompt admission of the anti-doping rule violation when first notified to him,” the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) said in a statement.
The two-year ban for Kazi commenced on February 8, 2019. “ln addition to this, in considering the suitable sanction, the BCB is appreciating him for agreeing to an outcome that sidesteps the need for a hearing and also saves a significant amount of time and money for use elsewhere in the fight against doping.“
“ln light of all of this, the BCB contemplates that the ban of two (2) years is rational and proportionate in respect of Mr Anik’s case.”
Kazi has so far played four first-class tournaments and taken 15 wickets.
