Zimbabwe cricket team’s head coach Lalchand Rajput won’t be travelling to Pakistan along with the team for the limited-overs series.
Pakistan and Zimbabwe are scheduled to play limited-overs series consisting of three ODI and as many T20I matches, PCB confirmed on Monday.
Zimbabwe Cricket released a statement saying that Rajput is a former Indian player was initially supposed to travel to Pakistan. However, the embassy of India in Harare wrote to the board requesting them to exempt the former from travelling with the team.
“The Embassy of India in Harare wrote to Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) asking that Rajput, who is an Indian national, be exempted from visiting Pakistan for the limited-overs tour in accordance with the travel guidelines stipulated by the Government of India for its citizens,” the release said. “The Embassy of Pakistan in Harare had issued a visa to Rajput.”
Douglas Hondo will be the interim coach of the side for the entire tour in absence of Rajput. The tour is slated to begin at the end of the month starting with the ODI series in Lahore, followed by the T20I series.
Zimbabwe will also visit Pakistan for the first time after five years since 2015. They had toured Pakistan for the first time back in 2015.
