Ashes 2023 3rd Test: Mark Wood and Chris Woakes held their nerves and stitched a 24-run unbeaten partnership for the 7th wicket to help England win the third Test against Australia by 3 wickets and keep England’s hopes alive in the series.
The third Test of the series saw another riveting contest and it was England, who won it in the end. The game was evenly poised till the end as England had lost seven wickets in pursuit of a 251-run target. The openers stayed unbeaten for 26 runs at stumps on day 3.
However, Australia struck early in the first session on day 4. Starc had Duckett (23) leg before a fuller delivery in the middle. The decision to send Moeen Ali at three didn’t work either as he departed after scoring 5 runs.
Zak Crawley provided a decent start with his 44-run knock, however, yet again, he failed to convert the start into a big score. Joe Root was another one who was guilty of not converting the start into a big score.
Harry Brook scores Match-winning 75 Runs, Also Smashes Fastest 1000 Runs in Tests
However, it was Harry Brook, who stayed firm and guided England closer to the victory. He struck 9 fours, most of them through the off side, on his way to 75 off 93. But, on the other end, wickets kept tumbling.
Ben Stokes (13) was unlucky as he got an edge while tickling one down the leg side, while Bairstow (5) was dragged onto the stumps. Harry Brook’s wicket in the 48th over saw tensions brewing in England’s camp. However, Wood and Woakes guided England home in the end with a stellar partnership.
The game started with Australia batting first and getting bowled out for 263. In response, England made 237 but fought back with the ball to bundle Australia out for just 224 in their second innings.
For England, Mark Wood made a phenomenal comeback as he picked 7 wickets on his return. Harry Brook’s comeback in form is also a great boost for them.
