Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announced its 15-member squad in advance of the upcoming ACC Men’s Asia Cup 2023. From July 13th to July 23rd, Sri Lanka will be hosting the sixth edition of this thrilling competition, which offers exciting matchups among young cricketers from all around the continent.
Dunith Wellalage, an exceptional young cricketer renowned for his amazing leadership abilities, will take on the heavy-duty of leading the Sri Lankan team. Wellalage will depend on his teammates’ skills and abilities to win the title on home soil with a focus towards a good season.
Roshan Ranasinghe, the honourable minister of sports and youth affairs, gave his authorization after showing trust in the players selected for the squad. Ranasinghe believes the selected team has the ideal balance of talent, potential, and perseverance for success in the competition.
The two available wicketkeepers for Sri Lanka, Minod Bhanuka and Lahiru Udara, represent significant additions to the team. They’ll need to be efficient behind the stumps if they want to ensure good results throughout the tournament. The team also has a formidable batting lineup with players like Avishka Fernando, Pasindu Sooriyabandara, and Ashen Bandara who are expected to make an important impact with their dynamic stroke play.
Sri Lanka Name Strong Bowling Unit
On the Sri Lanka pace attack, Binura Fernando is renowned for his ability to produce pace and effectively swing the ball. In addition to him, he will be supported by Lahiru Samarakoon, Lasith Croospulle, and Chamika Karunaratne, making an effective bowling unit that will pose a serious challenge to the batting lineups of the opposition.
Using a round-robin format, the competition will be played out, with Sri Lanka A placed in Group A with Oman A, Bangladesh A, and Afghanistan A. In order to make it to the semi-finals, the teams will face off in intense battles. The four nations in Group B—Nepal A, Pakistan A, the United Arab Emirates A, and India A—will provide thrilling matches throughout the competition’s ten-day period.
