IND vs WI 1st Test: On the 1st Day of India vs West Indies first Test, veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin registered a unique and remarkable record under his name. The 36-year-old registered two crucial additions to his laurels by dismissing West Indies opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul for 12 runs during the first hour of the match.
After winning the toss, Karlos Braithwaite-led side chose to bat first and pile up scores on the board. Ashwin dismissed Chanderpaul when the West Indies scoreboard read 31 in 12 overs before Ashwin inflicted the first damage to the hosts. By doing so, Ashwin also registered a unique feat by becoming the first-ever Indian bowler to dismiss a father-son duo in international cricket.
For the unversed, Tagenarine Chanderpaul is the son of the veteran West Indies batter Shivnarine Chanderpaul whom Ashwin had dismissed 12 years ago in Delhi. Notably, Ashwin was playing his first Test match in international cricket.

Ashwin also surpassed the former India Test skipper Anil Kumble who had the most bowled dismissals in Tests by an Indian bowler with 94 wickets.
Remarkably, Ashwin also became only the third Indian bowler to breach the 700 wickets mark in international cricket. He did so by dismissing Alzarri Joseph with a perfectly-pitched carrom ball which took Joseph’s bat’s leading edge only to land in Jaydev Unadkat’s hands at backward point.
Ashwin is only behind Anil Kumble (956 Wickets) and Harbhajan Singh (711 wickets) who constitute the elite list of most international wickets from India. Ashwin can easily surpass Harbhajan Singh and become 2nd in the race of most wickets by Indian bowlers.
India Restrict WI To 150 Runs in 1st Innings
Rohit Sharma & Co had a domineering show on Day 1 of the first Test, restricting West Indies to 150 runs. Indian bowlers outclassed WI batters, primarily dominated by spinners who accounted for 8 wickets in total. Ashwin (5/60) and Ravindra Jadeja (3/26) choked WI’s run influx giving visitors much-needed control of the game.
Rohit Sharma and debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal are set on the crease with India’s score at 66 runs for no loss. India is well ahead in the game as they set out to pile up a lead on Day 2.
