The Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) share of revenue from the International Cricket Council has risen by an incredible 72%. This significant rise was just recognized at the ICC’s Annual Conference in Durban, an outstanding achievement for Indian cricket.
The BCCI’s share has increased from 22.4% in the prior cycle to a remarkable 38.5% under the new revenue-sharing scheme approved by the ICC Board. This increase equals to around Rs 2,000 crore, or $231 million, in annual revenue for the Indian cricket body.
The media rights arrangement agreed between the ICC and Indian broadcaster Disney Star can be related to the increase in BCCI’s revenue share. This massive purchase, costing a whopping $3.1 billion, secures television rights for the following four years. The previous broadcasting agreement, which extended for eight years, was worth $1.9 billion.
Jay Shah, the BCCI Secretary, immediately informed the state associations of this amazing occurrence through email. In his letter, Shah complimented the combined efforts and support of all BCCI state organizations and officials, underlining that their joint dedication and contributions were critical in gaining such a sizable share for India.

Additionally, Shah informed that the BCCI received a significant amount from the ICC Strategic Fund. Acknowledging the importance of promoting cricket’s growth and development, the BCCI effectively advocated for a large percentage of the funding to be directed towards the ICC’s strategic objectives.
Arun Singh Dhumal praised the BCCI’s progressive leadership and highlighted the importance of the fund in developing the sport and growing its progress.
The significant rise in revenue sharing is an important moment for Indian cricket, both financially and tactically. With a stronger financial position, the BCCI has a greater opportunity to invest in the sport’s development, promote grassroots initiatives, and secure India’s continued presence in the cricketing world.
As Indian cricket fans celebrate this great achievement, the BCCI looks to the future, driven by the desire to build a healthy cricket environment and cement India’s position as a cricketing powerhouse.
