Royal Challengers Bangalore opener Aaron Finch on Wednesday acted as guarantor for the wicket-keeper batsman Joshua Philippe. Joshua Philippe was a part of the RCB’s side for their opening game against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday.
RCB won the match by 10 runs but the 23-year-old did not get enough opportunity to bat. He could face only one ball before the inning came to end as RCB finished at 163/5 after 20 overs.
Finch has backed the wicket-keeper batsman saying, “Absolutely! I think he’s someone who has got so much talent that he can play a number of roles,”
Joshua Philippe has earned admiration from Adam Gilchrist and AB de Villiers after his stellar performance for the Sydney Sixers in the BBL.
“We’ve seen how successful he can be at the top of the order in Big Bash and things like that. He’s someone who can play all around the ground. He’s got a lot of talent and a lot of skill and so I think if he’s given enough time at each role, I think he will start to develop into that beautifully.” Finch said.
The team management promoted the young Karnataka batsman Devdutt Padikkal to open the innings with Finch in his debut game. The youngster didn’t disappoint as he drilled the Hyderabad bowlers in all the directions and scored 56 runs of 42 balls.
Virat Kohli and the management will be looking to bank on their new recruits who might change their hard luck in the IPL this year.
RCB will next face Kings XI Punjab in their second match in Dubai on September 24.
