Chennai Super Kings off spinner Harbhajan Singh on Friday pulled out of the IPL 2020 citing “personal reasons” for this season.
The veteran bowler had earlier not travelled with the team to the UAE as he chose to stay with his mother due to her sickness. He was expected to join the side on September 1 but there were speculations that he might not participate in IPL 2020.
The 40-year-old finally took a call on his participation as he informed his team to excuse him from this year’s tournament due to “personal reasons”
However, the final confirmation from the franchise is yet to come. This also comes as a double setback for the franchise as Suresh Raina had already pulled out of the IPL citing the same reason.
Apparently, Harbhajan is worried about the COVID-19 cases in the UAE and hence he took this call and remained back in India.
MS Dhoni and his men tested negative for the coronavirus test for the third time in a row and therefore, they can start their training from this week. They already had a five-day pre-season camp back in India in Chennai between August 15-20.
The three-time IPL champions were scheduled to start their training from September 4 and will likely match up with the Mumbai Indians in the tournament opener.
