New Zealand Women’s Contract List 2023-24 season has been made available by the New Zealand Cricket (NZC), making it an exciting milestone for New Zealand’s women’s cricket. Pacer Lea Tahuhu and wicketkeeper Bernadine Bezuidenhout are two important additions. They join the core group of experienced players, including Sophie Devine and Suzie Bates.
In addition, Kate Anderson, a fine Northern Districts hitter who most recently won the title of Women’s Domestic Player of the Year at the New Zealand Cricket Awards, gets her first contract listed. Anderson won a well-deserved place in the national squad owing to her remarkable performance in Super Smash, where she led the run-scoring rankings with an incredible 536 runs from 12 matches.
Lea Tahuhu, a vital member of New Zealand’s bowling group, lost her spot last year but has earned it back this year. After a two-year break from cricket to recover with RED-S (Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport), Bernadine Bezuidenhout rejoins the contact list. Earlier this year, at the T20 World Cup in South Africa, Bezuidenhout joined the New Zealand team.
Unfortunately, the contracts for all-rounder Nensi Patel and wicketkeeper Jess McFayden from the previous season were not extended. Lauren Down, an Auckland batter, opted against signing a contract due to personal obligations.
The NZC Director of Female High Performance, Liz Green, mentioned her joy with the high-performance mechanisms implemented in the women’s cricket area and her hope that these measures will assist women’s cricket achieve future success in the international arena.
It is important to keep in mind that New Zealand Cricket hit a historic five-year agreement last year that ensured match-fee equality for female cricketers, bringing their wages into line with those of male players.
A white-ball tour of Sri Lanka by the New Zealand women’s cricket team is scheduled to begin the following week. However, the team will be without, Kate Anderson (finger), Hayley Jensen (knee), and Jess Kerr (toe), who are now receiving medical attention for their injuries.
