Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated the defending champions Mumbai Indians in a super over decider in Dubai on Monday. The match got tied after the Mumbai Indians managed to finish on 201/5 after 20 overs. Ishan Kishan and Kieron Pollard skewed the RCB bowlers from the 16th overs and changed the outcome of the match.
Earlier, MI skipper Rohit Sharma had won the toss and opt to bowl against the RCB. Aaron Finch looked in a great touch as he scrambled every ball all over the park. He scored 52 runs off 35 balls while Devdutt Padikkal showed his massive range of shots and blasted 54 runs.
AB de Villiers ripped through the Mumbai Indians’ bowling strategies by taking the charge in the death overs. With him scoring 55 runs, RCB reached a stiff total of 201/3 after 20 overs.
Mumbai Indians had a dreadful start especially after they lost the skipper and Suryakumar Yadav within three overs of the match. They soon lost the wicket of Quinton de Kock in the 7th over but Ishan Kishan made sure of not throwing away his wicket easily.
He took time to settle and later carted all the RCB bowlers for boundaries and sixes after reaching his half-century.
Ishan and Pollard stitched a partnership of 119 runs and inched towards the victory but fell short of just one run in the end. Ishan Kishan also missed his well deserved century by just one run after he got out in the final over.
The tie forced the Super Over and Mumbai Indians came to bat first. Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard came to the crease but ended up disappointing after managing to score 7 runs in the super over.
With 8 runs on the board to chase, Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers ensured the victory by scoring 11 runs in response.
After this win, RCB have now climbed to the third place in the latest IPL 2020 rankings, only behind Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals.
