According to the ICC, the winning team at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 will get USD 1.6 million in prize money. On the other hand, the runner-up team received confirmation of half that amount. The tournament will commence on October 16 with the first game between Sri Lanka and Namibia and the finals on November 13.
ICC has also announced that the runner-up team that will lose in the finals will earn USD 800,000 as a reward. Other teams participating in the tournament will also have the chance to yield cash prizes in the group stage & Super 12 stage.
Breakdown of the prize distribution
Towards the conclusion of the 16-team tournament the squad that the semi-finalists who couldn’t go ahead to the finals will each get $400,000 from the $5.6 million total prize pool.
The eight teams who will drop out of the Super 12 will each receive USD 70,000. The team that wins every game in the first round and the Super 12 phase of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 will be rewarded $40,000, similar to the previous year.
Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, and South Africa are the eight teams that advanced directly to the Super 12 stage.
The first round will feature the remaining eight teams, which are divided into two groups of four. These teams are Namibia, Sri Lanka, the Netherlands, the United Arab Emirates, and Zimbabwe in Group B, and they will compete in Group A. First-round winners will each receive $40,000 in prize money, for a total of $480,000 over the 12 matches.
Each of the four teams eliminated in the first round will get $40,000.
Considering the breakdown of the amount disbursed in the tournament, ICC is going to spend a whopping USD 5.6 million.
