Sunrisers Hyderabad succumbed to their fifth loss of the season and also their second loss against the Chennai Super Kings. On the other hand, Chennai Super Kings registered their third match of the season and also kept their qualification for the playoffs alive.
In that loss by 20 runs, SRH batsmen except Kane Williamson lacked mettle while chasing 168 runs. Williamson came in to bat at number 4 and scored 57 runs off 39 balls before getting dismissed by Karn Sharma.
Head coach Trevor Bayliss later revealed that there have been some arguments over playing Williamson at number 3. But he feels the kiwi skipper is doing a great job at the number 4 position for the team.
As the SRH failed to chase the target, Williamson ensured of keeping the game in their favour before getting dismissed.
“Look, there is an argument for playing Williamson higher up the order, obviously he is a high-quality player, currently he is doing the job for us at number four and hopefully bat with some of the young guys in the lower middle order. His experience can help out the younger players. He is a very good player, if he bats at number three, he can play bigger knocks but playing at number four is his role right now,” he added.
SRH could have pulled off the victory, however, that didn’t happen as the CSK bowlers bounced back and overwhelmed SRH batsmen in the finals overs.
Karn Sharma, DJ Bravo and Shardul took one wicket each in the final over of their spell and later took the side home with a 20 run win.
CSK is now 6th in the IPL 2020 standings and slated to meet Delhi Capitals on October 17. While SRH will face Kolkata Knight Riders in a double header weekend on October 18 at Abu Dhabi.
