Former India all-rounder Ajit Agarkar has been named chairman of selectors for India’s men’s cricket team. Agarkar won the full support of the three-member Cricket Advisory Committee. The CAC conducted interviews for the position of one selector on the Men’s Selection Committee.
Agarkar had an outstanding career in cricket, playing for India in 26 Tests, 191 ODIs, and 4 T20Is. Agarkar was part of the Indian squad that won the T20 World Cup in South Africa.
Additionally, he continues to hold the record for the quickest fifty by an Indian player in ODI cricket, having done so against Zimbabwe in 2000 in just 21 balls. Agarkar also has the honour of having taken 50 ODI wickets in the fewest number of games, achieving it in just 23 matches.
Even though Agarkar’s name has previously been connected to the top selector’s position, he will probably land the stressful position, as reported by MadoverCricket earlier.
With Salil Ankola’s addition and Agarkar’s being appointed, the Men’s Selection Committee will now have two selectors from the West Zone. Since Chetan Sharma’s dramatic departure in February, there has been a void that Agarkar will be filling.
“The former India all-rounder represented the country in 26 Tests, 191 ODIs, and four T20Is, in addition to playing 110 first-class, 270 List A, and 62 T20 matches. As a former fast bowler, he was part of India’s victorious squad in the inaugural T20 World Cup held in South Africa in 2007,” BCCI said in a press release.
After leaving the sport of professional cricket, Agarkar held a number of positions, including that of Chief Selector for the senior Mumbai squad and Head Coach for the Delhi Capitals.
Ajit Agarkar to Lead the Five-Member Selection Committee
Additionally, based on his experience, the committee suggested Agarkar for the role of Chairperson of the Men’s Selection Committee. The Men’s Selection Committee also includes Shiv Sundar Das, Subroto Banerjee, Salil Ankola, and Sridharan Sharath alongside Agarkar.
Cricket fans are looking forward to the impact and decisions that Ajit Agarkar would make in his new position as India’s Men’s Chief Selector.
Agarkar is in a prime position to play an important part in deciding the future of Indian cricket by identifying and nurturing bright players who will represent India at the highest level.
