Ashes 2023: Following the controversial run-out of Jonny Bairstow in the 2nd Test of Ashes 2023, Australian media outlets have targeted the English squad and star all-rounder Ben Stokes in an extension of the fierce rivalry between England and Australia during the Ashes series.
The incident, which took place at Lord’s during the second Test, resulted in animosity between the two cricket-playing nations.
The West Australian, an Australian media outlet, was quick to fuel the flames of controversy. They posted a photo with Ben Stokes in a diaper that had been photoshopped, along with the message “Crybabies.”
The picture was meant as a humorous reference to the alleged response of the England team after Bairstow’s ejection.
Ben Stokes, who is famous for his fierce competitiveness and wit, responded calmly and with humour. He posted the image to social media, joking that it wasn’t him in the picture since he didn’t bowl with the new ball. Stokes’ humorous answer was meant to ease the tension created by the incident.

The Australian media did not limit its criticisms to Stokes. They criticized the English captain as well, posting a picture of him with the headline, “Poms take whining to a new level with cheating drivel.” After Bairstow’s run-out, the English team was strongly accused of attempting to create a story of cheating.

Although, the run-out proved to be a crucial moment in the match. Ben Stokes scored an amazing 155 runs, but England ultimately finished 43 runs short of victory. After the controversial dismissal, Australia was accused of cheating, leaving England unable to accept their loss.
Former England cricketer Geoffrey Boycott is one calling for honesty from the Australian squad. Boycott advised the Australian team’s captain Pat Cummins and his teammates to publicly apologise, emphasizing that doing so would increase people’s respect for them.
The Ashes series has become more intense as a result of the controversy over Bairstow’s run-out. The cricketing community is looking forward to the Australian team’s response, and it is uncertain whether a formal apology or additional disagreements over words will make headlines in the days to come.
