The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), in an ongoing dispute over the hosting of the Asia Cup 2023, have disagreed over the proposed hybrid concept. The disagreement arises from reports that Jay Shah, the BCCI Secretary and Chairman of the Asian Cricket Council, doesn’t agree with the suggested proposal.
The BCCI’s objection to the hybrid model keeps hampering progress on the matter, although the fact that Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan have stated their intention of playing their matches in Pakistan without any concerns.
According to a member of the ACC board, the PCB has received guarantees from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan that they have no issues to playing their matches in Pakistan. A deadlock has been caused by the BCCI’s refusal of backing the hybrid approach. The dispute is supposed to be overcome during the ACC executive board meeting, which will be ruled over by Jay Shah.
The ACC board member said that an agreement needs to be found since not all 25 nations taking part have a stake in having the option to vote on the hybrid model during the future event.
Since only six countries are going to be competing directly in the competition, it is important to take into consideration the views of all participating countries rather than nations among those who are not.
Asia Cup hosting venue still remains undecided and open for negotiations
The IPL 2023 is scheduled to kick off on Monday, May 29, and the presidents of the cricket boards for Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka are going to India for the tournament. Their arrival is expected to stimulate conversation and prepare the way for a solution in the days to follow.
The Asia Cup 2023 hosting venue is now the topic of intense discussion and negotiation. While cricket fans are eagerly awaiting a decision, the major cricketing groups are working to find an agreement that would guarantee a fair and successful competition for all parties involved.
The results of the next ACC executive board meeting will determine the future of the Asia Cup 2023 and disclose the location of the prestigious event.
