After so much of tiffs and disagreements among the top tiers of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) constituting members, Asia Cup 2023 finally finds its host nation. And looks like, the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) proposal of a hybrid model for the Asia Cup 2023 has been given the nod by the ACC members. And as per the hybrid model, Sri Lanka is to become the neutral venue for the awaited tournament.
As per the proposed model, Pakistan, the original host will get to host four-five matches of the overall matches (which is 13). While Sri Lanka will host the rest of the matches which will include all the matches of India and also the final considering if India qualifies.
It has been reported that the final announcement would likely be done in the coming week. The tournament will likely take place between September 1-17 as designated by the ACC earlier.
Asia Cup 2023 Venues
As for now, the ACC has yet to reveal the venues and other details about the Asia Cup 2023. However, the matches for the Pakistan leg will most likely take place at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. All the teams including Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Nepal excluding India will travel to Pakistan for the tournament. As reported by a senior PTI journalist the India vs Pakistan match will take place at the Pallekelle Stadium in Sri Lanka.
“So the news is: Asia cup will be in the hybrid model in Pakistan and Srilanka, Lahore will host 4 matches and the rest will be in Sri Lanka, the final match can be played at a neutral venue #AsiaCup2023 @BCCI”
As for the Asia Cup 2023, both Pakistan and India are grouped together with Nepal while the other group consists of Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. And the tournament will take place in the One Day International (ODI) format in order to prepare for the forthcoming World Cup scheduled to take place in India this year between October and November.
