India has taken over as the number one team in the ICC Test Rankings, becoming the second team after South Africa to achieve the feat. The Rohit Sharma-led team has also become the first Asian team to achieve the top billing in the ICC Men’s Team Rankings in all three formats of the game – Test, One-Day Internationals (ODIs), and T20 Internationals (T20Is).
India has overtaken Australia to claim the top spot after collecting 115 points. Australian Team led by Pat Cummins, however, has 111 points. In the most recent first Test, the hosts defeated Australia by an inning and 132 runs.
In one-day internationals, the Men in Blue have 114 rating points, two more than Australia, who is ranked second in ICC rankings.
India currently holds the top spot in the T20Is standings with 267 rating points, one more than second-place England. India has been in excellent T20I form, having just won the T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.
With the T20 World Cup scheduled to be held in Australia later this year, India will be hoping to continue their dominance in the shorter format of the game. The team will also be looking to defend their number one ranking in the other two formats of the game.
