In the latest ICC Men’s ODI rankings, Australian seamer Josh Hazlewood has claimed the top spot for the first time in his career. Hazlewood had previously achieved his career-best ranking of second position in June 2017 and had been consistently in the top five since August 2022.
Trent Boult of New Zealand is currently second in the rankings after Hazlewood, while Mohammed Siraj of India is now in a third-place tie with Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc after Australia’s comprehensive 10-wicket win over India in Visakhapatnam.
The rankings depend on performances in recent series between India and Australia, Bangladesh and Ireland, and South Africa and the West Indies, as well as the opening match between Zimbabwe and the Netherlands.
A number of other bowlers also made significant improvements in their rankings., including West Indies’ Alzarri Joseph who rose eight spots to a career-high 11th place, and India’s fast pacer Mohammad Shami who moved up five places to 28th place.
The most recent rankings consider players’ recent performances in ODI matches leading up to the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, which is scheduled to be held later this year. A few players have increased remarkably in the rankings as a result of the current series between Australia and India.
India’s Mohammed Siraj struggled against the Australian batsmen in the second match in the series and dropped to the top of the rankings. Hazlewood, who is currently absent from the series, reclaimed the top spot with his consistently impressive performances.
