The Delhi Capitals announced on Saturday that they have hired Jonathan Batty, a two-time The Hundred winner, to coach their Women’s Premier League (WPL) team.
Former India international and chief selector Hemlata Kala and former England head coach Lisa Keightley will join as assistant coaches. Biju George will serve as the franchise’s fielding coach, who has previously worked with the national women’s team.
Jonathan Batty, who currently coaches the Melbourne Stars in the WBBL along with the Surrey women’s team, will bring his experience and success to the WPL.
“It’s an incredible time to be involved in Women’s cricket and the WPL has the potential to transform the landscape of women’s professional sport globally,” Batty said in a statement.
Lisa Keightley, the current Sydney Thunder head coach, led England to the ODI World Cup final in 2022. Hemlata Kala, a former member of the national review panel, is also still active in the coaching world.
Mithali Raj to join Gujarat as a mentor for Women’s Premier League
The Capri Global-owned franchise has also named their team the Lucknow Warriors and named Jon Lewis as their head coach. Anju Jain will join the franchise as an assistant coach, Lisa Sthalekar as a mentor, and Ashley Noffke as a bowling coach.
The Ahmedabad-based Gujarat Giants and Mumbai Indians announced their coaching staff earlier this month, with former India captain Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami named as team mentors, among other star signings.
On Sunday (February 11), the BCCI appointed Malika Advani as the auctioneer for the forthcoming WPL 2023 Auction which will take place on February 13 (Monday). he auction register currently includes 3 base prices: INR 30 lakh, INR 20 lakh, and INR 10 lakh. The Women’s Premier League (WPL) inaugural season will be played from March 4 to 26 at two venues in Mumbai, with both the player auction taking place on Monday.
