The wait is finally over, the first-ever edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) is all set to kick off on March 4 only a week after the Women’s T20 World Cup. The much-anticipated game-changer tournament will start on March 4 and the finale will be played on March 26 in Mumbai.
BCCI has already sent an email to all five franchises informing them that all the matches shall be played in Brabourne stadium and the DY Patil stadium here in Mumbai.
The decision was taken to reduce the logistics burden from the shoulders of the players, coaches and support staff. BCCI is ensuring that the tournament completes its course smoothly and is leaving no stone unturned in making that happen.
BCCI CEO has already confirmed through an email that the Women’s Premier League 2023 auction will take place on February 13 in Mumbai. Over 1500 players have registered themselves for the bidding, but the final list is yet to come. The franchise can bid only bid for up to 18 players, which means no more than 90 players will be brought to the auction table.
The five franchises were introduced in the bidding earlier in January by the BCCI, out of 5 franchises 3 were acquired by the 3 IPL teams namely Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore. The remaining two franchises were bought by the Adani Group and Capri global for a whopping amount of Rs. 4669.99 Crore ( equivalent to USD 572.78 Million) making it the biggest-ever deal made in Women’s cricket.
The BCCI is now busy inviting the bidders for acquiring the title sponsorship of WPL 2023-27 seasons and has announced the release of the request of the proposal.
The Indian Women’s cricket team is going through a purple patch and it is high time they get their deserved due.
