In preparation for cricket’s most prestigious tournament World Cup 2023, venues shortlisted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have begun planning for major renovations that could enhance the spectator experience. The World Cup will take hosted in ten cities, with thrilling matches expected to be played in Ahmedabad, Chennai, Mumbai, Dharamsala, Delhi, Pune, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Lucknow, and Kolkata.
Each venue is undergoing extensive upgrades ahead of the competition to guarantee world-class amenities for both players and spectators.
The famous Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, which is going to host four league matches and a semifinal, is getting a complete makeover. The outfield will be entirely redone, new LED lighting will be put in place, and the corporate boxes and restrooms will undergo renovations to offer the highest level of comfort and luxury.
The MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai plans to focus on modernizing its lighting system using LED lights. The square must be excavated up in order to install two new red soil pitches. These improvements will raise the standard of matches played at the stadium.
In response to complaints made during the IPL, Lucknow, the venue of India’s much-awaited encounter against England, is relaying its pitches. The objective is to guarantee that the fields fulfil international standards and offer a superb playing surface for the competition.
Meanwhile, The Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi is making every attempt to be ready. To make it an easy entrance for spectators, seating and restrooms are being renovated. However, the high-quality floodlights at the stadium will not change.
The Dharamsala HPCA Stadium’s maintenance efforts have already advanced considerably. Due to unfinished repairs, the stadium was not able to host a Test match between India and Australia, but it is hopeful that it would be ready for its five World Cup games, including India’s match against New Zealand.
A new drainage system, an air-evacuation system for excessive rains, and the usage of foreign ryegrass and shade-resistant Paspalum grass on the pitch are notable upgrades.
BCCI Set to Reimburse World Cup 2023 Venues with INR 50 Crores for Renovation
The BCCI will provide each World Cup stadium with a grant of INR 50 crores to pay for these renovations, for a total of nearly Rs 500 crore across all ten stadiums. This large spending demonstrates the commitment to offering excellent facilities for the competition.
Fans have been assured by Amol Kale, head of the Mumbai Cricket Association, that Wankhede Stadium will offer excellent amenities and outstanding hospitality services. Similarly to this, Rohit Pawar, head of the Maharashtra Cricket Association, wants to upgrade the Pune stadium based on suggestions made during the current Maharashtra Premier League.
This includes looking at the option of covering some stands, improving infrastructure like roads and restrooms, and fixing any seats that are broken.
It is evident that these improvements will take the Cricket World Cup to new heights as the countdown to the world cup starts. Players should expect top-notch facilities at all venues, while spectators will enjoy an improved match-viewing experience.
