Sisanda Magala Cricketer: Known as South Africa’s ‘death over specialist’, Sisanda Magala was born on January 7, 1991, in a small town in South Africa.
The 32-year-old started his professional career in Eastern Province. He was named in the 2015 Africa T20 Cup for the Eastern Province cricket team. In 2016, he had a major breakthrough in his career as he was the leading wicket-taker in the 2016 Africa T20 Cup This achievement of picking up 12 wickets in the tournament earned him major recognition. Magala was part of South Africa ‘A’ around this team. Following this achievement, in 2017, Magala was picked by the Nelson Mandela Bay Stars in the debut season of the T20 Global League. But this happiness was short-lived as the league was cancelled later by Cricket South Africa in 2018.
The same franchise picked him up for the first-ever edition of the T20 Mzansi Super League and in 2019, he moved into the Cape Town Blitz franchise where he was the sixth-highest wicket-taker.
Sisanda Magala International Career
The fast bowler started his international career in 2020 when he was named to the squad to play for the Proteas against England in the One Day International series. But soon enough, he was ruled unfit, making him sit out of the series. Nonetheless, Magala was included in South Africa’s Twenty20 International (T20I) team for the matches against England the following month. Magala was included in South Africa’s limited-overs teams in March 2021 for their series against Pakistan. On April 10, 2021, he played in his first T20I match for South Africa against Pakistan.
In the same year, he went on to play an ODI series against the Netherlands. On November 26, 2021, against the Netherlands, he played in his first ODI. Magala was included in South Africa’s Test team for the series against India the following month.
The talented bowler has shown his skills across domestic and international cricket by being the leading wicket-taker in one-day internationals and T20 Cups. With Dale Steyn as his biggest fan, this skilful bowler has come a long way and has so much more to show.
