DC W vs GG W: India’s rising star, Shafali Verma produced another batting spectacle on Saturday in the clash against Gujarat Giants. It won’t be an exaggeration to say that Verma played one of the best T20I knocks of all time in the history of women’s cricket.
Chasing a target of just 106 runs, Delhi Capitals took just 7.1 overs to cross the line, thanks to an unbelievable knock from Shafali Verma. She hit 10 fours and 5 sixes en route to a match-winning knock of 76 runs in just 28 balls. She played the unbeaten knock at a staggering strike rate of 271.43.
Meg Lanning was only acting as a cheerleader at the other end, playing as a second fiddle to Shafali. She too remained unbeaten on 21 runs in 15 balls as Delhi Capitals registered a 10-wicket win and climbed to second position on the table.
Kapp demolishes the top-order, takes four
Earlier, in the first innings, it was Marizanne Kapp who led Delhi Capitals’ brilliant bowling performance. She ripped through Gujarat’s batting lineup, picking five wickets for 15 runs in 5 overs. Kapp picked the wickets of all four top-order batters to leave Gujarat reeling at 18 for 4 inside the first four overs.
Meg Lanning was brilliant with her captaincy. She ensured Kapp completed all her four overs in one go. The South African, ended up picking her fifth wicket in the last over of her spell. Shikha Pandey, on the other hand, complimented her wonderfully as she claimed three wickets for 26 runs in 4 overs.
Thanks to those two contributions, Gujarat Giants were restricted to just 105 runs in the first innings. Kim Garth top-scored for them, playing an unbeaten knock of 32 runs in 37 balls, while the likes of Wareham (22) and Harleen Deol (20 off 14) also played handy cameos.
However, it didn’t prove enough as the Giants just didn’t start well with the bat.
