IND vs AUS 4th Test Day 1: In the ongoing fourth and final Test match between India and Australia, the latter won the toss and chose to bat first. At Stumps on Day 1, Australia had posted a respectable score of 255/4 in 90 overs, thanks to Usman Khawaja’s unbeaten century knock of 104 runs off 251 balls.
The opener’s innings was studded with 15 fours, and he will resume batting on Day 2 with Cameron Green, who was unbeaten on 49 runs.
Khawaja and Travis Head made a great start for Australia in their inning. Despite the fact that Head was dismissed by Ravichandran Ashwin for 32 runs off 44 balls, he added to his team’s solid start.
Marnus Labuschagne, who was introduced at number three, struggled to have an impact and left quickly for just three runs off 20 balls.
After building an excellent partnership alongside Khawaja, Steve Smith was dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja for 38 runs off 135 balls.
Peter Handscomb was comfortable at the crease but was bowled for 17 runs off of 27 balls, giving Mohammed Shami two wickets for the day.
After Handscomb’s dismissal, all-rounder Cameron Green partnered with Khawaja to restore Australia’s stability, and the duo put up a good partnership, with the opener eventually reaching his century.
In terms of the World Test Championship, the match is important for both teams, and if India wins, they will join Australia in the finals, which will be played at The Oval in June.
Although a draw or even a defeat won’t end India’s qualification chances, much will depend on the outcome of the Test series between New Zealand and Sri Lanka, which started on the same day.
Australia, on the other side, will strive to keep up its undefeated run and finish out the series equally. In the four-match series, the visitors currently have a 1-2 deficit.
