As India and Australia face off in the fourth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Indian cricketing superstars Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin are close to achieving key milestones in their illustrious careers.
Virat Kohli, who has struggled with the bat in the previous three matches, is just 42 runs away from reaching 4,000 Test runs in India. This feat has only been achieved by cricket legends Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sunil Gavaskar, and Virender Sehwag.
If Kohli accomplishes this in the current Test, he will become the third-fastest Indian to reach this milestone, surpassing Dravid and Gavaskar. Kohli currently holds the highest average among all the Indian batsmen who have reached this feat, with an impressive average of 58.
R Ashwin closing in on 700 wickets for India
The 36-year-old off-spinner Ashwin is close to achieving two major milestones at this point in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He needs 10 more wickets to achieve 700 for the Indian cricket team in international competitions. Ashwin has collected 467 wickets in Test matches, 151 in ODIs, and 72 in T20Is.
In addition, Ashwin requires four more wickets to tie Anil Kumble’s record for the most wickets an Indian has ever taken against Australia. When the game was played in its longest format, Kumble had 111 wickets against the Australians.
The fourth Test between India and Australia has been highly anticipated as it is the series decider. The excitement was further heightened by the presence of the Prime Ministers of India and Australia,
Narendra Modi and Anthony Lebanese. Both the Prime Ministers handed Test caps to the captains of their respective teams and did a lap of honour at the stadium.
As Kohli and Ashwin aim to achieve their historic milestones, cricket fans around the world will be eagerly watching the final Test of this closely-fought series between two of the best teams in the world.
