After lifting the IPL title for the fifth time, MI skipper Rohit Sharma will fly back to India for the preparation of Australia tour. The swashbuckling batsman failed to make a cut into the limited-overs squad following a hamstring injury during IPL.
Earlier this week, the BCCI had released the revised squad for the Australia tour including Rohit Sharma in the Test squad. Rohit Sharma will return to India and stay under the rehabilitation until declared completely fit for the Australia tour.
The Test series against Australia will get underway from December 17-21 at Adelaide Oval pink-ball Test. And Rohit Sharma will be preparing for the series staying at the National Cricket Academy after Diwali.
“He will return with the team to Mumbai and then head to the NCA as is the rule with contracted India players who are recovering from any injury. You can expect him to spend Diwali at home and then head to Bengaluru. He is an integral part of the Test team and his job will be all the more crucial as Virat Kohli is set to skip the last three Tests,” one of the sources told ANI.
Other Indian players who are currently in the UAE and selected for the tour will directly fly to Australia this week.
“The last batch of players came in after the final on Tuesday night. Those who were part of the MI unit did miss out on celebrating the win with the rest of the boys at the team hotel, but they can always celebrate after returning from national duty,” the source added.
