IND vs WI: The Men in Blue are set to mark their return to International cricket with the upcoming tour to the West Indies. India will star in a full-fledged bilateral tour consisting of a two-match Test series, three-match ODI series and a five-match T-20I series.
Rohit Sharma & Co. will initiate the proceedings of the tour by featuring in the first Test that is scheduled to start on July 12. However, the schedule of the World Cup Qualifiers where West Indies is an eminent participant is hampering the start of the tour.
IND vs WI Fixture to remain unchanged if West Indies fails to qualify for World Cup Qualifiers Final
If West Indies qualify for the Final, the summit clash is scheduled to take place on July 9. The Caribbean stars will have a long journey from Harare to Roseau for the Indian Test with no proper rest due to a short time span. This certainly puts the start of the first Test match in jeopardy.
Cricket West Indies (CWI) will likely face some logistical challenges to bring their players back to their home country. A normal international trip takes up to two days for travelling from Harare to Roseau. With only a three-day gap between the World Cup Qualifiers Final and the India-West Indies Test match, the Caribbean heavyweights might struggle to play fit with adequate rest.
“The final of the CWCQ is meaningless, so our Test players won’t participate, but first we need to make sure we reach the final,” a CWI official said,
West Indies have always preferred playing different players in distinct formats of the game. However, some overlap is always observed in the case of multi-format players. Kyle Mayers, Roston Chase, Jason Holder and Alzarri Joseph are an incumbent part of the squad for the World Cup Qualifiers and are also part of the India-West Indies Test series.
West Indies will likely not try to play the junior players in front of the mighty Indian side. They will preferably go ahead with their astonishing and veteran talents which portrays that the first Test match will likely be rescheduled.
